Did you know? mbw cares for fair play!
We are committed to our social responsibility, and we monitor compliance with human rights in the factories in which our products are manufactured. BSCI and ICTI are associations, which provide for monitoring and certification of the factories on our instructions.
Fair Play on the Global Labour Market
Many promotional products as well as toys are made in the Far East. In case of toys, this means 75% to 80% of the worldwide traded toys. As the price plays an essential role on the competitive market, for a long time labour standards were not in the focus in the low-wage countries. During the last years an awarness raised among the importers and the users, which created demands for improved working conditions in such countries.
Today, importers and wholesalers are conscious of their social responsibility and demand stricter controls. Associations and initiatives were set up, e.g. BSCI (Business Social Compliance Initiative) and ICTI (International Council of Toy Industry).
BSCI is a non-profit organisation with its headquarters in Brussels. The code of conduct is based on conventions of ILO (international labour organisation), UNO Declaration of Human Rights, UN Global Compact and OECD guidelines.
The aim: improvement of working conditions in the international supply chain as a unitary approach for importing companies.
The BSCI code of conduct:
1. Compliance with all applicable laws and regulations, as well as industry minimum
standards
2. Freedom of association and the right to collective bargaining
3. No discrimination shall be tolerated in hiring, remuneration, access to training, promotion,
termination or retirement based on social or human differences.
4. Wages paid for regular working hours, overtime hours and overtime differentials shall meet
or exceed legal minimums and/or industry standards.
5. Compliance with applicable national laws and industry standards on working hours and
public holidays.
6. Workplace health and safety
7. Prohibition of child labour
8. Prohibition of forced and compulsory labour and disciplinary measures
9. Environment and safety issues
10. Managementsystems for ensuring the code of conduct
These directives must be visibly displayed in the local language in the factories, which join the BSCI.
Just like BSCI also ICTI is involved with the respect for human rights and is putting much effort in achieving fair working conditions in the factories. National associations from 20 countries are members of the international umbrella organisation.
All strive for the common aim: Respect for human rights!
